The
Citys Redevelopment Authority (RDA) selected PHDC through a competitive
Request for Proposals (RFP) to undertake the rehabilitation of the entire
2700 block
of Sears Street located in South Philadelphia. The development created
21 rehabilitated homeownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income
persons and will include repairs to privately owned, occupied residential
units through the integration of other existing city programs. The concept
for the project was developed by PHDC and subsequently adopted by the
City, as the model for neighborhood revitalization.
The project converted 36 vacant residential structures into 21 houses.
Facade work maintained the historic nature of these townhouses which
date from 1896. Where feasible adjacent vacant properties were combined
to increase the size of existing structures and decrease the housing
density within the neighborhood. The project has five two-bedroom rowhouses,
15 three-bedroom rowhouses and one four-bedroom disabled-accessible rowhouse
for low- and moderate-income households. |
